Compensation and Availability

Most internship positions in the UCDC Program are non-paid. However, some of the sponsoring organizations offer varying forms of compensation. Since financial aid does not apply to students involved in the UCDC Summer Internship Program, there are several options to assist individuals in affording the experience.

  1. The Presidential Scholarship - (applications available ONLY to those admitted into the UCDC Internship Programs)
       Qualifications:
    • Must have 3.0 Cumulative G.P.A.
    • Obtain an internship by end of Spring Quarter
    • Financial Aid eligible
    • Must be returning to UCI for at least one quarter after internship
  2. Fundraising - As part of the UCDC Summer Internship Program, students may take advantage of, and participate in, numerous fundraising opportunities. In the past we have done a See's Candy fundraiser and participated in Wayzgoose. Other students have even solicited their family members and friends through fundraising letters.
  3. Part-time Jobs in D.C. - Obtaining a part-time job in Washington D.C. while interning is not uncommon for some students. It is a great way to earn extra cash to pay for travel opportunities, food, and other incidentals they may incur.
  4. Start Saving Your Pennies! - The recruiting process for UCDC begins in early Fall Quarter. Students are accepted into the program in early to mid-November and don't leave for D.C. until mid-June - that gives you 7 months to start saving your pennies! If you're serious and committed to the program, we encourage you to plan your finances accordingly. After all, this is an extremely unique opportunity!

The vast majority of students seek internships during the Summer. However, there are internships available during Fall, Winter, and Spring quarters through the UCDC Academic Internship Program.
